"A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Another Reason for My Love for Jermaine.

I have found, yet, another reason why I love Jermaine L. Cole.  You know you truly have a talented artist when fans continuously find reasons why they’re fans in the first place.  I recently discovered a video on the Music Choice network of our favorite North Carolina native performing on a New York rooftop.  J.Cole is performing “Work Out” live.

This “Work Out” performance has my heart fluttering.  Mind you, I’ve probably heard this song a million times. (The summer it came out I blasted this song on my way to my camp counselor job. I also drew tears when I saw him perform this track live last October.)  Nonetheless, watching Jermaine perform “Workout” nearly a year after the song’s release, is still giving me butterflies.  It’s all in the delivery.

From the first keys on the piano, J.Cole already has a small smirk on his face; like he is anticipating his own performance.  Therefore, I (his audience) am also anticipating the performance.  He sets himself up.  The incorporation of two pianist and a DJ during his shows doesn’t hurt the atmosphere either.

As “Workout” continues J.Cole isn’t over-singing on the track or doing that half-rap, half-ballad thing that is getting oh-too-common these days, he lets his lyrical side flow out of him naturally.  Which is why I have concluded I love Mr. Cole a little more.  He is truly a musician.  He feels the music so much that his rapping turns into a serenade, and it is effortless.

Prayers have been answered!

The Coolest himself, yes you guessed it, Mr. Lupe Fiasco will be making his return in late May!  Food & Liquor 2 is set to drop just in time for summer kickbacks everywhere to get started the right way.

Lupe’s follow-up to his debut album, Food & Liquor  is going to let him unleash the Fiasco inside.  Lupe told Fuse that he hopes to be himself on this album and dismiss the labels anyone attempts to place on him.

Fans can look forward to a meeting of the old “Kick, Push” Lup and the new “Lasers” Lup.  Regardless, the name Food & Liquor 2 gets hearts racing.

What happened to the West Coast

It has been years since the West Coast has produced good music. What is going on?

The last good rapper to come out of the west coast might have been… unfortunately Tupac.  It is shameful that the West still has to rely on the music of one great who left this Earth nearly 16 years ago.  Sure, it is not contested that Tupac was one of the greatest, but it is time for another great.

With that said, where are the West Coast greats?  New York has produced Jay-Z. Louisiana has even produced Lil Wayne, who was respectable at one point in time.  Georgia has produced T.I., who also has some credibility. Even Canada made Drake! Who can the West Coast claim? Sure there is Snoop, Dre, Cube; but consider the generation they appeal to.

Nonetheless, if I had to place my cards on any two rappers it’d be on Kendrick Lamar and Dom Kennedy.  Dom over Kendrick, because of my personal preference. Check out these CD’s from the two:

Iggy Azaela

With the absence of legitimate female rappers Iggy Azaela picked the right time to make an entrance in the rap game.  Its safe to say Nicki Minaj is not holding up her end of the bargain when it comes to female rap, and her fans have had enough. Its time to move on.  Iggy is the next step up from Nicki Minaj. It’s also safe to say you don’t have to worry about her putting on a cotton candy wig, or Sailor Moon costume and then getting up on stage talking in a Jamaican/Chinese accent and then convince you that is the new age of rap.

Iggy won’t leave you shaking your head at yourself, asking “Why did I buy the album?” She’s Australian, for one.  Her values are hopefully a little different than here in the States. Her close affiliates include T.I., who signed her to Grand Hustle along with Chip and Trae the Truth.  If your not convinced yet, she was the only female on this year’s XXL “Top 10 Freshmen List.”

If you haven’t already, listen to ”Murda Bizness ft. T.I.” if that doesn’t make you a fan, listen to the mixtape: Ignorant Art. The songs to turn up on that mixtape are:

Four out of 9 songs is not bad.
